About a year ago we learned that speedster Rasmus Kupari was taking his talents to Switzerland signing a two-year contract with HC Lugano. At the time, it was a bit of a surprise move for the then 25-year-old after two seasons with the Jets. It was a tough first season for the Finnish forward in the National League, as a concussion limited him to just seven regular season games (1G, 1A) and four playoff contests (1G, 2A).

His new hockey club announced they had signed him to a two-year extension with GM Janick Steinmann sharing this statement about the signing:
“Rasmus has had a very tough season behind him. His injury lasted longer than hoped, and he did everything possible to return as soon as he could. When he got back on the ice, he showed his speed and skills, and in the playoffs he was one of our top forwards. I have a lot of faith in him, and I believe that in the coming seasons we can see his very best version.”
Kupari, who was acquired by the Jets from the Los Angeles Kings in the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade in 2023, remains an RFA of Winnipeg, who hold his NHL rights until 2027 as per PuckPedia. But with this new extension keeping him in Switzerland through 2028, a return to North America appears increasingly unlikely.
