Note: Just wanted to thank everyone for bearing with us the last couple of days as we switched to a more powerful server in order to handle the additional traffic and demands the site has seen as we continue to grow. Thank you for making us part of your daily experience. Since the papers weren’t live on Thursday I have combined them as there were some really good links that are worth sharing even if they are “old news”.
Note II: After hitting the ice with some tweaks to the power play units in practice the Jets will be looking to take advantage against a Devils team that will be playing their third game since Tuesday including a 5-2 loss last night in St. Paul. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM so stay tuned for the pre-game report. Puck drop is at 7 PM and join us after the game on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show.
Note III: The Moose are traveling today but the team made big news on Thursday naming Jimmy Oligny as the 11th captain in Manitoba history (obviously including the 1.0 years). He’s a solid choice who provides veteran leadership on and off the ice.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Maurice deploys ‘significant philosophical’ change to help kickstart struggling power play. Given how anemic it has become this thing needs a jolt of adrenaline to get it going again.
Global News: Struggling offence at the root of Jets’ recent rough patch. Although would help the team immensely if any of these three started to find the back of the net.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets look to Connor for power-play punch. (Paywall). Makes sense to put your faith in a player that has the most goals for your team and is always a threat to score.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have a need for speed. (Paywall). It isn’t just about skating fast (although that helps) but quicker more decisive decision making to help keep your opponents back on their heels.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets players know it is up to them to end scoring drought. (Paywall). The good news for them is that it is a collective team drought so they all have to bail out together.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Schmidt welcomes rest, isn’t panicking amid slump. They may as well have taken advantage of this time between games as it was an unusual stretch in a condensed season.
Sportsnet: Jets prospect Chaz Lucius is ‘going to be a terrific player’. Wieber caught up with the Jets 2021 1st rounder when his Minnesota squad was in Grand Forks to play the Fighting Eagles.
Jets video:
Sportsnet: What do the Jets need to correct to get out of skid? Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe talk about the Jets trying to adjust their powerplay and how to team is trying to get back to playing at a high level.
Global News: John Shannon on the Winnipeg Jets. If this latest Jets slump continues, will changes be on the way? And who is the Jets’ MVP at the quarter mark of the season? 680 CJOB hockey analyst John Shannon gives his take.
