Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note:  The Jets have added four prospects to their organization after a weekend of virtual drafting and in case you missed anything including chats with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, Director of Amateur Scouting Mark Hillier as well as our two Illegal Curve broadcast we’ve got you covered here.

Note II: Reminder today is the day the Jets will need to tender their qualifying offers to RFAs by 4 PM CT. We will bring you the latest regarding whom receives an offer from Winnipeg. Update: The Jets tendered offers to four of their RFAs.  Check out those who did and didn’t get and offer from Winnipeg here.

Note III:  Normally we’d be switching focus to Jets prospect development camp but instead it will be a focus on free agency which starts Wednesday. That will also be our final Illegal Curve Hockey Show of the season which you can watch here.

Update:  It was a busy night in Winnipeg with news first breaking that the team had signed Paul Stastny to a one-year deal and that was followed by a trade with the Capitals for Brenden Dillon.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets’ recent draft fortune spotlights how crucial timing is to building a Stanley Cup contender. (Paywall). Murat counsels patience in his most recent piece because while entry level contracts can help a team make things run smoothly under the cap these players take time to get to the point where they can help your NHL club.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets making major strides in addressing centre needs. (Paywall). They’ve done a decent job restocking the cupboard at that position. Could use another RD prospect and things would be looking up for Winnipeg from a prospect perspective.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets willing to wait on skilled players selected in NHL draft. The second part of draft and development is the word development which means allowing the players the requisite time to get to the NHL. For some like Jacob Trouba or Kyle Connor it is one year of college and for others it is a longer path. Winnipeg has shown a willingness (see Logan Stanley) to allow players the time necessary to marinate in order to be better prepared for the top league in the world.

Sportsnet: Big week for potential Jack Eichel trade, free agency predictions. While nothing super Jets specific (aside from his predicting Derek Forbort will sign with Boston) lots of interesting tidbits that are relevant (like his free agency predictions of Dougie Hamilton going to New Jersey and David Savard going to Montreal) etc.
