Note: The Jets were off on Monday as they returned to Winnipeg from Vancouver with a 3-1-0 record from the road trip in their pocket. The only question mark is the status of defenceman Tucker Poolman who didn’t play the 3rd period and was listed as dealing with an upper-body injury according to his head coach. The Jets will practice today at 11 AM as they get set to host the Habs on Thursday night. Stay tuned for the Practice Report for the latest news and interviews.
Note II: The Moose picked up their third win in a row last night as they kicked off their four-game road trip with a 3-2 OT win courtesy of a game-winner by 2019 1st rounder Ville Heinola which was set up by 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti. It was actually Heinola’s second goal of the game although his “first” ever AHL goal wasn’t anything to write home about. Today they are set to practice at 1 PM as they get ready for a re-match with the Rocket tomorrow night.
Note III: With it being a quiet day on Monday we checked out what was doing with the handful of Jets prospects who remain overseas. Henri Nikkanen has been on a heater since February began, Santeri Virtanen finds himself watching remotely & Arvid Holm is a wee bit excited to be back between the pipes/winning games for Farjestads. Check it out here.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets soaring, but there’s a weird sense of angst. (Paywall). I suspect folks just have different views as to what an optimal composition for this Jets squad would look like on a nightly basis and they aren’t afraid to share those thoughts with you. And if not a thought you can be assured of a well-placed Paul Maurice GIF.
Winnipeg Sun: Relationship on the rebound: maybe Dubois can help Jets fans forget Laine. Interestingly I hadn’t heard many people talking about Laine or Roslovic (aside from my dad who provides me with daily Jack Roslovic updates) but now with the emergence of Pierre-Luc Dubois folks are breathing a sigh of relief.
Winnipeg Sun: Talent washing the sins away; Pionk the ‘Pulverizer’. In his notebook column Scott writes about the oodles of talent the Jets have at their disposal, big hitter Neal Pionk and the talent between the pipes.
Global News/CJOB: Pionk’s progression a cautionary tale against rushing to judgement. We spoke about the need to guard against “instant gratification” with Ken during our show on Saturday and the idea of declaring a winner/loser immediately after a trade is made.
Sportsnet: Jets finding success with Dubois at left wing, but return to centre inevitable. It certainly got him going playing with Scheifele and Wheeler last night but as Ken writes the plan is to have him up the middle.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Pierre-Luc Dubois’ Jets breakthrough: Giving his new linemates their due credit. (Paywall). So far the experiment has payed off for the Jets.
The Athletic: Paul Maurice 20 Questions: On Whalers, Stanley Cup hope and ‘Cool Hand Luke’. (Paywall). Sean had questions and the Jets bench boss had answers for those questions in this Q&A.
