Note: This week saw the Jets holding their end of season media availability over the course of three days. Mark Scheifele | Andrew Copp | Bryan Little | Josh Morrissey | Coach Maurice | GM Cheveldayoff.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Cheveldayoff’s creativity key to Jets regaining contender status. Given that this core group is in win now(ish) mode the GM is going to have to use his cap space to augment this team in order to help get it back to the level it was at a few years ago.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets hope Bryan Little’s OK, but have to be realistic. The Jets have spent most of this season without the services of their usual second line centre. If Little isn’t good to go then the question is will they look internally, will they go the UFA route or will they seek a trade?
Winnipeg Sun: Jets GM hands out sparkling report card for coach. Not terribly surprised he publicly supported his head coach and his staff.
Winnipeg Sun: Chevy spinning his wheels. Ultimately this next season sure seems to be the one in which the Jets really start to make some noise. That will likely only occur if the GM gets aggressive and creative in the moves he will make in order to accomplish this task.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets head coach, GM say squad made best of topsy-turvy season. (Paywall). Given all the hurdles this team faced all the way to the end is it really such a surprise at how it ended?
Winnipeg Free Press: Pressure mounting on Jets GM. (Paywall). While he helped build a team that went farther than any NHL team in this town had ever been a few years back, sports is a what have you done for me lately type of thing and strolls down memory lane won’t be sufficient for this fan base.
CBC: Hamstrung by Byfuglien’s absence, Jets persevered through tumultuous season. The loss of the big man sure seemed to be a theme mentioned during both the Maurice and Cheveldayoff scrums on Thursday.
Global News: ‘There’s going to be some tough decisions’: Winnipeg Jets with 15 free agents. When you look at the list of RFAs it is one that should get done fairly easily and I suspect they’ll be able to sign whichever UFAs they’d like.
NHL.com: Cheveldayoff prepared for unpredictable off-season. It won’t quite be as momentous as what he had in front of him last summer but this one is probably just as important with the laundry list of things he has to accomplish.
Jets video:
TSN: Jets’ #1 priority should be rebuilding blueline. With Winnipeg losing some big names on their back end last season, TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin believes rebuilding their defensive core should be the team’s focus heading into next season.
Sportsnet: Looking for Jets’ Cheveldayoff to make some bold moves this offseason. NHL insider Ken Wiebe joins Sean Reynolds to break down the end of season zoom interviews with Jets’ head coach Paul Maurice and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, and why signs point to the team making some bold moves this offseason.
Jets audio:
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Jets eyeing a busy offseason. TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie joined the Big Show for one last time to look back on his legendary career as a hockey insider as well as what moves could be on tap for the Jets this offseason.
