Note: It was a wild and wacky kick off to 2020 last night at Bell MTS Place as the Toronto Maple Leafs, with many, many fans in attendance, took it 6-3 on a night that the Jets held a significant shot edge but didn’t get the goaltending support that they have come to rely upon from Connor Hellebuyck. Today the Jets are scheduled to practice at 12 noon before they head to Minnesota to kick off a four-game road trip. Check back for the Practice Report later today for the latest news and audio.
Note II: The Moose will look to keep the good times rolling as they have won three of their last four games including a two-game sweep of the Rockford IceHogs. Tonight they welcome the Colorado Eagles to town and Manitoba might have some revenge on the brain considering Colorado hammered them just over two weeks ago by a score of 10-4. But this will be a tough test considering the Eagles are 7-1-1-1 in their last 10 games. Puck drop is at 7 pm.
Note III: It was a busy day for news on Thursday. In case you missed any of it, Winnipeg reassigned Joona Luoto to the Moose, advised that Nathan Beaulieu is out a minimum of a month, and recalled Sami Niku to Jets. Additionally the Moose have recalled Jets 2016 4th rounder Jacob Cederholm back to Manitoba.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fire 48 shots in gaffe-filled 6-3 loss to Leafs. (Paywall). It was like the song by LMFAO featuring Lil Jon – Shots cause the Jets took a lot of them.
Winnipeg Sun: Hellebuyck rocked as Leafs hammer Jets in wide-open affair. It was not a banner evening for the Jets All-Star goalie.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets Snapshots. Ted covers quite a bit in his Snapshots column including Winnipegger Adam Brooks first NHL point, the Beaulieu injury, the Jets PK and Roslovic’s unselfish play (vs Avs).
Toronto Sun: Andersen comes up big in victory as Leafs defence falters against Jets. Considering his lifetime record against the Jets I am sure they are happy they don’t face him more than twice a season.
Sportnet: Red-hot Maple Leafs continue scoring binge in win over Jets. Chris recaps the action.
TSN: Andersen stands tall, Hellebuyck falters as Leafs keep rolling. The TSN Hockey panel takes a closer look at Frederik Andersen’s terrific 45-save performance against the Jets, a disappointing night for Connor Hellebuyck, and discuss William Nylander’s play, who according to Jeff O’Neill has ‘never looked better’.
Sportsnet: William Nylander continued effective play in Maple Leafs win over Jets. Chris Johnston and Sean Reynolds recap the Toronto Maple Leafs performance in their win over the Winnipeg Jets.
