Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets faced former goalie Eric Comrie who was making his first NHL start of the season for Detroit last night in Winnipeg.  The game was close until the home side broke it open with three goals in two minutes in the second period, going on to win 5-1 over the Wings.  Today the Jets are scheduled to practice at 11 AM before they head for Michigan to complete their home and home series with the Wings.  Check back for the Practice Report for the latest news and audio.

Note III:  While it seems unlikely, Michael Russo of The Athletic Minnesota wrote about the Wild being hosts of the 2021 Winter Classic and he had the Jets as the third likeliest team to be their opponent.

Note III:  The Moose are in Texas to kick off five games on the road when they take on the Stars tonight at 7 pm.  The team got Mason Appleton back after he was assigned by the Jets on Tuesday morning.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets crush lowly Red Wings with two-minute goal barrage.  The Adam Lowry shorthanded goal certainly seemed to play a big factor in the contest.  Interestingly it was the first one the Jets scored all season long.

Winnipeg Sun: High-scoring young Jets’ wingers are evolving into leaders.  Taking ownership and carving out a bigger role for themselves.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets blow the doors off lowly Red Wings in 5-1 win. (Paywall).  It was like watching the Jets taking on the Grand Rapids Griffins.  Sure they could dance for a bit but eventually the more talented club put it all together.

NHL.com:  Wheeler, Jets hand Red Wings 12th straight loss.  The captain also hit 200 goals with the organization (193 with Winnipeg and seven with Atlanta).

The Athletic Detroit:  Amid the losses, reasons the Red Wings are still worth watching this season.  (Paywall).  Jets fans will only be forced to endure one more game as they wrap up the season series with Detroit on Thursday.

TSN: Laine shines with ‘goal-scorers’ goal against Red Wings. Patrik Laine scored a beauty goal for his ninth of the season and while some might expect more scoring from the Jets’ sniper, Mike Johnson points out that he’s still contributing offensively, it’s just not what we’re used to seeing.
