Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness confirms Wade Flaherty will return as goalie coach

The only goalie coach the Jets 2.0 have ever known will return next season.

Back in May when the news came out that the Jets would be cleaning house the only exception was with goalie coach Wade Flaherty who has been part of the organization since day 1. In his presser on that day GM Kevin Cheveldayoff indicated:

“Can’t say I’ve got a deal signed with him but I did have a conversation that I would be offering him something.”

Given how Connor Hellebuyck and Eric Comrie have both thrived under his tutelage it isn’t a big surprise that he would be retained. When we spoke to Eric Comrie on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show at the end of May he spoke glowingly about what Flaherty has meant for his career.

Today during the informal part of his media availability new Jets head coach Rick Bowness confirmed that he was bringing Scott Arniel on as a associate coach and that the club would be retaining Wade Flaherty as goalie coach.  The two have history given that Bowness was head coach in the Islanders organization during the 1997-98 season when Flaherty was a backup to Tommy Salo.
