On the Beat

On the Beat: Heatley “too risky” for Kings, NHLPA is living up to its motto “never trust anyone” and the Edmonton Arena debate is about to get started.

While a number of Beat Writers are focussed on the firing of NHLPA director Paul Kelly, there are still a number of stories being reported. Looks like Kings GM Dean Lombardi thinks that Dany Heatley is too risky, we learn that the Ducks have some very good centers, the Bruins return to the ice box, Cam Ward is looking healthy, the Islanders & Hurricanes make a minor move, Vinny Lecavalier really likes Alex Tanguay, the new arena debate in Edmonton is about to get started big time and a list of Jersey Fouls you shouldn’t commit.

News from the Team beat writers:

  • With the news of NHLPA director Paul Kelly’s firing, Damien Cox talks about the NHLPA’s motto “Never trust anyone, either inside or outside the association“.  I’m not sure what the NHL players are thinking

  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe is back at the arena and so are various Bruins as camp gets underway.
  • Reports from Raleigh would seem to indicate that Cam Ward’s back shouldn’t be a problemThat is good news for the Hurricane.  If they expect to do well this season, they need him to be playing at 100%.
  • The Islanders make a minor move, trading prospect Rob Hennigar for Bobby Hughes, a prospect in Carolina’s system writes Katie Strang.
  • Mike Boone over at Habs Inside/Out we learn that Vinny Lecavalier really likes Alex TanguayHe will likely really compliment him on the line.
  • If you are a cynic, then here is your guide to the Great Edmonton Arena debate, writes David Staples.  Does Edmonton need a new arena?  What do you think?
  • If you ever wondered why you shouldn’t commit a jersey foul, the guys over at Empty Netters have created an addendum to their original Jersey Foul Bill of RightsVery funny list.
