Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | June 19, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are now done. The big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection coming up soon. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg. You can also check out our chat with Craig Button as it pertains to the pick here and with Shane Malloy here. We will be at the Jets Draft Party on Friday, June 26th doing a live first round broadcast so be sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel.

Note II: It was a surprisingly busy Thursday in Jetsland. The big news of the day was something that had been percolating for a while but was confirmed yesterday, as Jonathan Toews is set to announce retirement today after a 16-year NHL career. We will have it covered.

Note III: We also learned that prospect Owen Martin (2025 3rd) is planning to head the NCAA route after the Oakbank product completes one more year in the WHL with Spokane. Sticking with Manitobans, goalie Isaac Poulter signed a one-year extension with Winnipeg.

Note IV: Unlike player contract extensions, the Jets generally do not announce new deals for members of their executive team. In a chat the other day TSN’s Darren Dreger dropped the news that Kevin Cheveldayoff is “in the early days of a contract extension”.
