Note III:  Today the focus is completely on the next generation as the 2020 NHL Draft kicks off virtually this evening with the 1st round starting at 6 PM CT.  The Jets have the 10th overall pick (here are some predictions as to who they might select) and we will have complete coverage on site including media availability with whomever Winnipeg drafts as well as Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.  Stay tuned.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Decoding what GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said — and left unsaid — on Jets’ offseason.  (Paywall).  Decoding Chevy-speak is a tall task but Murat is up for the challenge as he attempts to decipher what exactly the general manager was saying in his 30+ minute discussion on Monday.

Winnipeg Sun:  Despite obvious needs, Jets’ GM Cheveldayoff says team will stick to philosophy of drafting best player available in first roundConsidering that you are required to project your future needs down the road it is difficult to suggest if you draft a centre (for example) that this will still be an organizational need when that player is ready to make the jump to the NHL.

Winnipeg Sun:  Laine a wildcard too good to discardBased on the offers that are rumoured to be out there I think Kevin Cheveldayoff would be well advised to hang up the phone and/or change his number.

Winnipeg Free Press:  An NHL Draft day like no other.  (Paywall).  The ability to have quick chat conversations between GMs on the draft floor will be one big change.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets GM doesn’t quash Patrik Laine trade rumours.  (Paywall).  Guess he could have outright denied it but since there is so much smoke he would be hard pressed to deny them.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Brossoit won’t get his back up over being backup. (Paywall).  It seems like a good fit for both the Jets and the BC based netminder.

Sportsnet: Jets’ Cheveldayoff excited about prospects available in NHL DraftBased on what has been written about this draft folks are going to be excited by more than just what is available in the first round.

CBC: Expect the Jets to be ‘active’ in free agency, maybe with trades, says GM who’s mum on Laine’s futureFree agency is a tough way for the Jets to get premier free agents as the team often simply augments their roster during this period.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Jets trade tiers: Who could Winnipeg move for a top defenceman?  (Paywall).  Murat breaks Jets players into tiers such as elite assets, the good value assets, depth assets and other noteworthy assets as well as the percentage likelihood he feels that the player is to be moved.
