Note: Come join the Illegal Curve crew at McNally Robinson on Grant tonight as we officially launch the Jets annual. Event starts at 7pm.
Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele savours Game 1. No time to be star-struck in the NHL for the Jets 1st round pick. He has 8 games left to make a positive impression on the brass.
Winnipeg Free Press: Step it up, mister star left-winger. Probably wants Kane to focus more on making an impact on the ice, than throwing a great post game party at Republic.
Globe and Mail: Jets crack down on scalpers. My concern is even if the Jets cancel someone’s tickets what prevents them from selling the tickets still? At this point they have the actual tickets in hand and if you purchase it from them, how are you to know they’ve been cancelled? Would seem that the busted scalpers aren’t going to stop selling these tickets (since they had no problems breaking the law in the first place) and that whomever is buying these tickets will pay the price when they get denied entry to the building. I’m sure the Jets would say it’s ‘buyer beware’ and that if you chose to engage in ticket scalping, you run this risk. Be aware of this as you look to get tickets for future Jets home games.
ESPN: Hockey may return to Atlanta (registration required). Should Atlanta be given another opportunity with a proper ownership group?
Winnipeg Free Press: Bisons goalie cuts class after surprise call-up from Jets. It was a once in a lifetime experience for the Bisons’ netminder.
Metro News: Pavelec in position to take Jets to next level. As Pavelec goes, so go the Jets as this is a team that will rely on their tender to keep them in a lot of games this season.
Winnipeg Free Press: Noel swears sister had no influence. He needed to get his point across in practice that the Jets needed to step up the intensity level.
Sportingnews: Report – Red Wings, Jets could be only teams to move in NHL realignment. I still think that before realignment talk begins, the league needs to sort out the situation with teams that are possibly relocating. Plus the Wings playing in the Southeast just seems wrong.
Chicago Sun-Times: Buff, Ladd should affect mood at United Center. The crowd is likely going to give these returning former hero’s a positive welcome before they turn on them once the game begins.
Chicago Sun-Times: Hull warns Winnipeg – Don’t lose fans again. He’s right and wrong. He’s right that fans will get tired of shelling out dollars to attend bad hockey. He’s wrong in that they have to for a minimum of the next 3 years as it is in the contract they signed.
Winnipeg Sun: Oduya needs a do-over. Based on his play in Game 1, the Jets defenceman needs to change his decision making. That first pass which led to a goal by Camelleri was into a sea of white jerseys.
Globe and Mail: NHL reaping benefits of Winnipeg effect. I’d just like to bask in that story headline. For all the anti-Winnipeg crowd (and there were many) it has to really bug them that Winnipeg is proving itself to be a boon to this league, not the “hand held out beggar at the table” as was suggested this team would be.
CBC: Hockey Night in Canada sets audience record. Not surprised that they hit big numbers last weekend.
