Winnipeg Free Press:  ‘It was a joke’ says Kane.  Ed spoke with Kane and got his thoughts regarding the controversial tweet.

Twitter:  Kane photo causes backlashThe Jets young gun caused some twitter consternation as he tweeted a picture of himself in Vegas holding bundles of cashDoes this picture bother you?  Probably not the best message to be sending during a lockout.

CBC:  Ron Hainsey anxious to resume labour talks.  Hainsey is right.  It is difficult to make a deal if you are not meeting but at this point the league is done with public shows which accomplish little more than gets fans excited.  If the sides are not ready to compromise on their positions, then it seems pointless to meet.

NHL.com:  Adam Lowry scores twice as Swift Current Broncos down Saskatoon BladesThe Jets prospect is on quite the streak right now.  He has 12 goals since December 5th and is on a seven game scoring streak.  Last night’s 2 goals put his total at 23.

The Telegram:  Icecaps, Phantoms familiar foes this fallThey didn’t play once last year but tonight is already the 4th meeting between the clubs.

Reporter Herald:  Colorado Eagles lose top two scorersAnd just like that the top two scorers in the ECHL, not just on the team, are off to a new AHL team (Bridgeport Sound Tigers – Farm team of the New York Islanders) after signing PTO’s.

CBA news:

TSN:  Daly says he thinks there will be a seasonThat is a pretty clear answer from the NHL #2.

CBC:  Elliotte Friedman’s 30 Thoughts.  Couple of Jets related thoughts (#2 and #3) as well as numerous other interesting comments from Friedman.

Toronto Star:  More game cancellations coming, Bill Daly says.  The key point to focus on is when Daly says “point of no return by mid-January” which was expected but always another thing to hear it made official by the league.

Globe and Mail:  Lockout will force NHL to take its medicine, only question is whenThe NHL is flying too close to the sun on wings of pastramiiThis can only end in disaster in the markets that simply cannot afford the ill will.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Dithering NHL, union need to dealGary sums it up best “make the deal already”.

Globe and Mail:   NHL on knife-edge of relevancyAs a direct result of the lockout, both sides should spend money as they try to lure back fans.  Of course we know that in Canada and the northern U.S. states this won’t be required as, I suspect, you will barely notice any impact once games resume.

ESPN:  NHL, NHLPA waiting for the other to make a moveA multi billion dollar game of chicken these two are playing.

CBC:  Prime Minister Harper says lockout dangerous business for NHLThe Prime Minister of Canada is a big hockey fan and recognizes what problems the NHL lockout has caused in this country.

TSN:  Talks remain stalled; more games likely to be cancelledStay tuned for what will likely be the last round of cancelled games this week.  If this goes as scripted the NHL will cancel games until the middle of January.  They will buy themselves enough time to get a deal done before the New Year and have games resume middle of the month.

NHL news:

Toronto Star:  Ball hockey players shocked to find Sidney Crosby playing goalieWhile this is a very fun story for those involved what I found very telling was the expected backlash after the NHLPA tweeted this newsFans are clearly not happy and these ‘feel good’ stories are just not going to accomplish much of anything.

World Juniors:

Globe and Mail:  The things Eric Duhatschek learned at world junior camp (Audio).  Duhatschek shares his impressions on this year’s edition of Team Canada.

TSN:  TSN delivers multi-platform coverageWhile you might not be getting your fill of NHL hockey this holiday season, TSN will ensure that you have many ways to access the World Junior tournament.
