Jets & Affiliate news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets check Burmi’s ‘upper-body injury’While there is never a good time to be injured, the good news for Burmistrov and the IceCaps is they don’t play again until FridayGotta love that instagram broke the news of his return.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Another go at the goldThe US finished 7th last season but with only 3 returning players, of which Trouba is one, they expect a big turnaround.

Winnipeg Sun:  Big defenceman Trouba turning heads in freshman yearWhile the University of Michigan season hasn’t been too strong (off to a 5-8-2 record), the Jets 1st pick in the 2012 entry draft has been holding his own.

CBC:  RCMP warn shoppers about counterfeit goodsQuite the decrease in counterfeit Jets jerseys from last year to this year.

Jets official site:  Coach Claude Noel spending his time helping Winnipeg’s AAA minor hockey program (video).  Most Jets fans would rather see him coaching the Jets but perhaps with his help, Manitoba will be sending more players to Team Canada.

Idaho Mountain Express and Guide:  Winger Sides gets call-up to AHL St. John’sLots of excitement as the local product gets the call up from the ECHL to the AHL.

VOCM:  IceCaps Visit Cancer Care CentreAlways good to see the players trying to spread some cheer to young fans who are suffering.

Reporter Herald:  Colorado Eagles’ Teegan Moore hopeful for weekend returnLet’s hope his inclusion in the lineup can help the Eagles with their woeful road record.

CBA news:

Globe and Mail:   A positive step in NHL lockout negotiations after so much time wasted.  The press conference was short and bereft of comment, which might be the best news to happen during the lockout.  Stay tuned as we wait to see if this afternoon’s meeting bring any fresh success.

ESPN:  Sides to meet again todayAfter yesterday’s productive talks, let us hope that another marathon session will produce some tangible results.

Toronto Star:  Season could be saved as labour talks heat upIt appears that if this lockout gets resolved, fans from across the league should be thanking those members of the Penguins organization who appear to be bridging the gap that has grown between the two sides.

CBC:  Daly, Steve Fehr make joint appearance after ‘constructive’ talksA 10 hour meeting and then a joint-statement from the NHL and NHLPA.  Perhaps we are getting somewhere!  While it is too soon to get overly excited, ‘cautious optimism’ appears to be the sentiment around the league.

Globe and Mail:  Enduing his third lockout, Teemu Selanne’s career hangs in the balanceIt would be a real shame to have the career of the Finnish Flash end without him being the one to make the decision.  While the last lockout likely extended his career by allowing his body to heal, there are no illusions that another year off at 42 years of age would likely spell the end of the line.  Fortunately for Jets fans they had one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever seen when Teemu came to town last December, so if in fact he does retire, they saw him go out on a high note.

NHL news:

Detroit Free Press:  If new home built for Red Wings, will the beloved Joe have to goAs someone who saw a number of games live at Joe Louis Arena I have developed quite an affinity for the old barn but for Detroit to get a shiny new arena might be just what the doctor orderedThere is only so much Little Caesars a guy can eat.

Sportsnet:  Bettman to hold press conferenceThe commish will address the media today at about 12pm following the league’s Board of Governors meeting in New York.

World Junior news:
