Note: During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. If you’d like to help the Illegal Curve team as we raise money and awareness you are welcome to do so; Dave, Ezra & Drew.
Mo Trivia: Who does this starter-Mo belong to?
Jets & Affiliate news:
Winnipeg Sun: Miettinen heads home. In case you missed the news yesterday, another Jets heads back overseas.
Comcast Sportsnet New England: P-Bruins blank IceCaps, 3-0. The pattern of a loss following a win continues as the Caps dropped another game following a win, something they’ve done 4 times this season. Coach McCambridge wants consistency but I suspect his version would see a number of W’s strung together.
Yahoo Sports: Scheifele scores in OT as Barrie tops Sault Ste. Marie. Missed this link over the weekend as the Jets #1 pick in 2011 had an impressive night returning to the lineup after dealing with a stomach bug which cost him a game. Scheifele’s 4 points (3 goals and 1 assist) adds to his already impressive OHL totals (16 games, 11 goals, 16 assists, 27 points), good enough for 5th in the league with 3 less games played than the guys ranked 1-3.
R-Sport: Ex-Jet Stapleton Takes Dynamo Minsk Past Riga. He is top 30 in the KHL in scoring and really seems to have found his niche.
CBA news:
Toronto Star: Bill Daly, Steve Fehr upbeat after marathon talks. So after a two week timeout, the cancellation of the Winter Classic, both sides sent their deputies to an undisclosed location and they came out agreeing with each other and made plans for future talks (on Tuesday). Will wonders never cease.
Globe and Mail: Even some owners don’t like what’s under the cap in NHL labour dispute. This is part of the problem when you are bargaining on behalf of 29 ownership groups, all with different needs and wants. Commissioner Bettman’s job is ensuring he can make the final result as palatable to owner 1 as it is to owner 29, which is certainly not an easy task.
CBC: Next meetings critical for NHL, NHLPA. As per usual Elliotte Friedman hits it on the head. This next meeting is critical to capitalize on the positive momentum coming from the weekend’s talks.
CBS Sports: NHL lockout? Try the fan lockout, rap style. Catchy tune by the Ottawa based rapper. Despite his call to arms for fans, it looks like most will return to the NHL once the lockout situation is resolved.
NHL news:
Edmonton Journal: McLennan puts his engaging stories into print. We have had the engaging goalie turned TSN analyst on the program before and he is always so animated, you would have to imagine that if he puts this energy into a book, it will probably be a great read.
Metro News: Councillors want probe of promoter in Markham arena deal. You have to wonder who is in control of a city government sometimes. Why is it that they now want to take a look considering they approved the project last April? I’m not suggesting they shouldn’t take an extremely long look at a company which is proposing to spend millions of your dollars on a project of this size, but it just seems like they should have done their due diligence when it was proposed?
