Note: Today is the first day of Movember. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. If you’d like to help the Illegal Curve team as we raise money and awareness you are welcome to do so; Dave, Ezra & Drew. Things kick off in Winnipeg with a big shave off starting at 2:30 pm today at Rudy’s downtown.
Jets, Affiliate & local news:
Muse: IceCaps meet Admirals in a spooky series. The Caps were very good at sweeping series last season, so this early trend of splitting is likely worrisome for coach McCambridge and company.
Reporter Herald: Colorado Eagles seeing plenty of players from St. John’s in 2012-13. Not surprisingly the lockout in the NHL is causing a downward effect of AHL talent to the Jets ECHL club.
CBA news:
Winnipeg Sun: NHL taking fans and their money for granted. With hardcore hockey fans this is expected but the long term ramifications for the fair weather fans will be interesting.
National Post: Fans should make NHL pay if Winter Classic is cancelled. Why should the Winter Classic matter to a Winnipeg Jets or any other fans? Sure they will likely watch the game, but I a bit mystified as to why this game should matter more than the 10+ home games NHL fans have already lost. The Winter Classic is a money maker for the league and players not the fans, so why should they give a hoot if it is cancelled?
Globe and Mail: Seeds of the lockout sown seven years ago and for that, both sides are to blame. He is absolutely right. Both sides are to blame. Show up to the bargaining table without any preconditions and start the negotiations. The current level of intransigence by both sides is practically criminal.
TSN: Could NHLers be fired if they get hurt playing? Not exactly cheap to have your contract insured but worth the price in order to ensure that if you get injured you have some back-up.
NHL news:
Toronto Star: Hockey Night in Canada book looks back at 60 years of NHL broadcasting. If you are looking for a holiday gift this seems ideal for any hockey fan.
