CBC: NHL landscape littered with landmines. Elliotte Friedman provides some thoughts on the current status of negotiations and some of the difficulties experienced by both sides.
R-Sport: KHL to Broadcast in US. Looks like ESPN wants some hockey highlights.
New York Times: Q. and A. With Biographer of Gary Bettman. An extremely interesting read which provides a bit more insight into the NHL commish, aside from the standard “boogeyman” refrain.
New York Daily News: HRR definition and interpretations will be the focus as NHL and NHLPA resume meetings. I would be incredulous that HRR is still not defined to the satisfaction of either side, if I had any expectations that the NHL or the NHLPA were interested in moving the process along quickly.
Star Phoenix: Federko not on owners or players side. Always interesting to hear what former players have to say about the current status of negotiations between the league and the players. He is correct, of course, that the biggest losers are the ancillary workers who will be losing income that they likely cannot afford to lose.
National Post: Wayne Gretzky believes NHL lockout will end by January. The Great One offers some optimism but much like Ron MacLean and other hockey insiders who are prognosticating an end to the stalemate, the only two who have any idea as to when the lockout might end are Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman.

Globe and Mail: Daryl Katz and the art of damage control. Having spent some time in Edmonton’s downtown it can stand some revitalization. Hopefully the city and Katz can sort out this mess to the benefit of the city.

Illegal Procedure: Grey Cup Train Tour hits Manitoba. In celebration of the 100th Grey Cup anniversary, the league’s coveted trophy is travelling across the country and making stops throughout each province for fans to catch a glimpse and join in the festivities. The Grey Cup will be in Manitoba from October 3rd through to October 6th.

This does not win football games.
