Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets, Moose & Ice news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets are in offseason mode but is there really ever an offseason? If there is any news we will have it for you here. Like last night when the Panthers defeated the Leafs it meant the Jets went from drafting 19th overall to 18th at next month’s NHL Draft in Nashville.

Note II: Speaking of the Jets, Dylan Samberg and Team USA defeated the Finns in their first game of the World Championship yesterday but with Dennis Beyak doing play-by-play and Brian Engblom doing colour, it sounded like a lot like a Jets 2.0 broadcast from the early days.

Note III: The Moose are also now in offseason mode. We did almost 20 interviews on Monday to conclude the Moose season. Lots of good stuff from Jets prospects (Heinola, Torgersson, Nikkanen, Lundmark). The team will release the content over the next week or so. And we will wrap up the season next week with an end of season Moose recap show.

Note IV: To date they’ve released Jimmy Oligny (watch here), head coach Mark Morrison (watch here), Evan Polei & Cole Maier (watch here), Dominic Toninato (watch here), Oskari Salminen (watch here), Ashton Sautner (watch here), Ville Heinola (watch here), Arvid Holm (watch here) and Simon Lundmark (watch here).

Note V: The Ice and Thunderbirds did battle last night in front of an enthusiastic 5500+ fans as the home team held on for a 3-2 win in game 1 to take a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is tonight at 6 PM CDT.

Note VI: Join us this morning at 9 AM CDT on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours Jets, Moose and Ice talk today. We will be joined by Jesse Pollock of TSN’s Bardown and Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.

Jets news:

The Hockey News: Where will Pierre-Luc Dubois play next season? No new information contained here. More of a consolidation of the articles written locally for consumption by a wider audience.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets mailbag: Draft-and-develop success? Borrowing from NBA rebuild strategies? (Paywall). Murat’s mailbag was so full he needed a second one to conclude answering all of your questions.

The Hockey Writers: Ville Heinola working toward NHL role next season. I was quite impressed by our chat on Monday. No entitlement. Just a guy who will spend his summer working his ass off to ensure he has a spot on the big club.

Sportsnet: Jets Mailbag: What does Connor Hellebuyck’s next contract look likeIn addition to trying to answer that question Wieber looks at potential front runners for Pierre-Luc Dubois, the ability of Nikolaj Ehlers to stay healthy, success of Paul Maurice as a lesson, Jets effort to acquire Jakob Chychrun, fitting D prospects up with big club and more. (Editor’s Note: I had the wrong link for this article so I am including it today in case you weren’t able to access the mailbag).

Jets prospect news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets prospect Lambert making most of his time with T-birds. (Paywall). Mike had a chat with the Jets prospect and then incorporated the game.

Ice news:

Winnipeg Sun: Winnipeg Ice holds off a late Seattle rally to win Game 1 of WHL final. Scotty recaps the game from his seat inside Canada Life Centre.

Winnipeg Free Press: Ice hold on for Game 1 triumph. (Paywall). Plenty of insight on the game from Josh who has been covering the Ice for most of the season.
