Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note:  The Jets went 3-1-0 on their four-game road trip out west including last night’s 4-3 OT victory which saw Pierre-Luc Dubois play the hero contributing two goals (including the game-winner) and an assist in the victory. There was a cost however as defenceman Tucker Poolman didn’t play the 3rd period and is out with an upper-body injury.  The Jets will return to Winnipeg today and then have a few days before they play again as they don’t have a game until they welcome the Habs to town on Thursday night.

Note II:  The Moose are in Quebec today as they get set to kick off a four-game series against the Habs affiliate Laval in Montreal.  Morning skate at 10:15 and puck drop is at 6 PM.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Relationship on the rebound: maybe Dubois can help Jets fans forget Laine. Interestingly I hadn’t heard many people talking about Laine or Roslovic (aside from my dad who provides me with daily Jack Roslovic updates) but now with the emergence of Pierre-Luc Dubois folks are breathing a sigh of relief.

Winnipeg Sun: Talent washing the sins away; Pionk the ‘Pulverizer’. In his notebook column Scott writes about the oodles of talent the Jets have at their disposal, big hitter Neal Pionk and the talent between the pipes.

Global News/CJOB:  Pionk’s progression a cautionary tale against rushing to judgementWe spoke about the need to guard against “instant gratification” with Ken during our show on Saturday and the idea of declaring a winner/loser immediately after a trade is made.

Sportsnet: Jets finding success with Dubois at left wing, but return to centre inevitableIt certainly got him going playing with Scheifele and Wheeler last night but as Ken writes the plan is to have him up the middle.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Paul Maurice 20 Questions: On Whalers, Stanley Cup hope and ‘Cool Hand Luke’. (Paywall). Sean had questions and the Jets bench boss had answers for those questions in this Q&A.

Winnipeg Sun: Dubois leads Jets to overtime victory over Canucks with ‘Welcome to Winnipeg’ night. It was an impressive performance given it was uncertain whether he’d be ready to go.  Scott has more on the game and the performance of PLD.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pierre-Luc Dubois scores OT winning goal; Jets defeat Canucks 4-3. (Paywall).  Mike recaps the action as the Jets added another two points to the standings bank.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets a picture of health. (Paywall).  Given that they weren’t after last night’s game Mike may get into trouble (kidding) considering how superstitious hockey folks can be.

The Province: Fast start fades into settling for gut-punch point.  Read about last night’s contest from the perspective of a writer that covers the Canucks.

Global News: Dubois’ overtime winner, three-point night leads Jets over Canucks 4-3.  Quite the performance by the newest member of the organization.

CTV News: Frozen tribute to Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler. Folks certainly putting some effort into the extra curriculars during this pandemic.

Jets video:

TSN:  Dubois showed glimpses of what he’s capable of but still not at his best. The Jets were outplayed early on but still managed to scratch out an overtime victory over the Canucks, thanks to Pierre-Luc Dubois’ timely goals. TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson believes Dubois is still not at his best and commented on Paul Maurice’s decision to put Dubois on the wing rather than centre.

TSN: Dubois marks his true arrival with two-goal effort and game-winner against Canucks. Everyone had been waiting for Pierre-Luc Dubois to make his return and it didn’t take him long to show Jets fans what he’s capable of as he capped off a brilliant two-goal night with the overtime-winner against the Canucks. Sara Orlesky and Craig Button have more.
