Note: With the news that the NHL and NHLPA had ratified the four-year CBA extension and Return to Play Plan on Friday it means that Phase 3 is set to begin. For folks in Winnipeg this means that Jets training camp will start on Monday. We also now have the Jets and Flames schedule for the play-in series which is set to begin August 1st and some other relevant dates for your Jets/NHL calendar this summer.
Note II: While we know training camp is gonna start on Monday we don’t yet know who will be in attendance for the Jets. The Jets are expected to release the full roster either today or tomorrow. For now here was my guess at the members of the Moose who could get the call for training camp (back when it was expected that the roster would be made up of 28 skaters). Update: Here is the list.
Note III: Jets forward Andrew Copp spent some time on Saturday afternoon chatting with us via video conference call ahead of training camp getting underway. You can watch it here.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Copp looking forward to returning to hockey. (Paywall). He certainly has been busy during the pause between the regular season and training camp.
Winnipeg Sun: Copp not worried about pandemic playoffs. You got the sense from yesterday’s video chat that he is committed and ready to get going
Winnipeg Sun: Wait finally over as Jets set to open COVID camp. Lots of Jets content for you in Scott’s latest article which the hardest working man did from the road while he is on holidays.
NHL news:
Sportsnet: As NHL restart nears, what does a doomsday scenario look like? As of now, the NHL’s message is that the 24-team tournament would only be shut down if doctors felt the virus had spiraled out of control among the NHL population, rather than being tied to “X” number of positive tests.
Sportsnet: NHL’s choice of hub sites in Toronto, Edmonton just make sense. Living in these bubbles is gonna make these players eligible for life in a biodome.
TSN: Bettman, Fehr reflect on Return to Play, CBA deals. The two leaders were participating in a zoom chat on Saturday to discuss the latest with respect to the NHL.
