Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news and audio.

Note:   Some of the Jets took to the ice in downtown Winnipeg for a skate on Wednesday ahead of leaving for Minnesota where they will take on the Wild tonight.  Morning skate gets underway at 11:30 am CT and the pre-game report will bring you up to speed with the latest news and audio from Xcel Energy Center.  Puck drop is at 7 pm CT.  Following the game be sure to check back here for our post-game recap.

Note II:  The NHL and Adidas revealed the 2019 NHL All-Star uniforms to be worn later this month in San Jose.  Folks got a chance to see what Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and maybe Patrik Laine (depending on how voting goes in the Last Men In vote which is open until 12 noon today) will be wearing at the game.  Check it out here.

Note III:  The Moose kick off the first of six games at Bell MTS Place tonight as they take on the Laval Rocket.  Morning skate gets underway at 10:00 am and puck drop is at 7 pm.  As always we will have complete coverage of the action.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Five keys vs Wild.  Ken’s big matchup is Blake Wheeler vs Mikko Koivu. His five keys to the game: 1) You again. 2) What drought? 3) Spreading the wealth. 4) Warming up. 5) Call for Staal.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets Snapshots.  Paul’s column covers hockey hard again for Laine, Jets having their hands full with the Wild, what standings and Frenchie the Grinder.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets riding No. 1 goalie while stats leader Brossoit rides bench. (Paywall).  Considering the Jets bench boss once rode Arturs Irbe for 77 games in a season (2000-01) back in his Carolina days perhaps this isn’t so unexpected.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets prepare for Wild’s suffocating style of play. (Paywall).  It is safe to say we won’t be seeing any Fire Wagon hockey tonight.

Winnipeg Free Press: From red-hot to ice-cold: Laine trying not to think about scoring drought. (Paywall).  When hockey starts not being fun for the Finnish sniper is when he starts to heat up so it may be time that Winnipeg finally starts to warm up.

Sportsnet:  31 Thoughts.  Mentions Brossoit (10) and Tanev (11).

Jets video:

TSN: Why is Laine such a streaky goal scorer? Mike Johnson explains why goals seem to come in bunches for Patrik Laine and if his streak goal scoring could affect his negotiations for a new contract.

TSN: Slumping Laine getting same feelings as last year.  Last season Patrik Laine made headlines when he called hockey ”hard” while going through a scoring slump. With just three goals in his last 18 games, Laine says that his comments from last year can probably apply once again. Sara Orlesky has more.

NHL This Week:

Topics: Jets defeat the Avalanche 7-4, Jets/Wild Preview, The best non-entry level bargains in the NHL, Does the NHL need to do more to protect Connor McDavid & other superstars, Which top offense is better—Flames or Lightning.

Guests: Ken Holland (Detroit Red Wings General Manager), Tom Reid (Minnesota Wild Radio Analyst), Max Bultman (covers the Detroit Red Wings for The Athletic).
