Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news.

Note:  This hasn’t been a banner road trip for the Manitoba Moose who dropped yet another game last night in Bakersfield, a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Condors.  They have one last game against Ontario which goes tonight at 8 pm.  They have gone 0-4-2-1 in seven games on the road and overall boast a 11-24-3-4 record on the season.  After the game against the Reign to close out the California leg of the trip the Moose return to Winnipeg for six straight games starting next Thursday against Toronto.

Note II: Tune into today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show for the latest Jets and NHL news starting at 9 am. Interviews: Tom Lynn (Agent at Veritas Hockey).  George Johnson (Calgary based writer).  Roundtable Guests:  Scott Billeck and Jeff Hamilton (Winnipeg Free Press).  The roundtable starts at 11 am.

Jets news:

USA Today:  Dustin Byfuglien talks future; plus three trade fits if he leaves Jets.  Not a surprise that all three potential teams are in the East.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Co-owner Chipman learning lessons on playing the NHL game.  (Paywall).  Plenty to digest in this piece from Paul.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Fishing, contract situation dominates discussion with Byfuglien.  (Paywall).  Tim is down in Nashville and files this report from Byfuglien’s nearly 30 minute chat with the media.

Winnipeg Sun:  Winnipeg Buff’s kind of town.  Not difficult to see how a guy who was raised in Roseau, Minnesota likes what this part of the world has to offer.  And now we wait to see if there will in fact be an offer of substance or if he will be gone by trade deadline.

Winnipeg Sun:  Kevin Cheveldayoff has not reached the bar he set for himself.   Part two of this three part series goes to Paul Friesen.  He certainly doesn’t mince words in this article.

TSN:  Byfuglien gives lukewarm response on Winnipeg.  Apparently Byfuglien forgot to bring his palm palms to the podium.  Perhaps I’m not reading the nuance that the national media is seeing in his words.  Fact is he is in a negotiation.  He isn’t going to go gaga with the media (even if that was his personality, which it isn’t).

Sportsnet:  Byfuglien keeping a clear head with future in Winnipeg unsettled.  Not really surprised that he isn’t allowing it to bother him.  As he said, it is the reason he has an agent.

MyToba:  Assessing the Jets during the All-Star break.  Scott starts by taking stock of the Jets current situation.  Then takes a gander at the major personnel quandary.

NHL.com:  Byfuglien to test speed at All-Star skills.  When the big man gets moving watch out.  Will also take part in the hardest shot.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Gino Reda joins the guys to discuss Dustin Byfuglien’s comments in Nashville.
