Winnipeg Free Press: Lack of intelligent play against Sens frustrates coach Noel. The Jets bench boss was clearly not happy with his troops following the game last night. During his post-game press conference he said the following:
“Some things were exposed. I don’t know what it is, but when you come off a road trip we weren’t thinking very good, very clearly.”
When asked in a follow-up question what specifically was exposed, coach Noel wouldn’t go into greater detail but as Ed Tait says, you can bet during today’s practice the coach is going to expect some intensity.
Winnipeg Free Press: Close shave Jets lack finish. The Jets started off the game with a buzz from the opening faceoff, had a good power play during a Spezza slashing penalty early in the 1st period and then seemed to fold when Milan Michalek scored a beauty. The game was a see-saw battle for the remainder of the evening which saw both teams scoring in bunches.
Winnipeg Sun: Squandered opportunity for Jets. Not a good start to the home stand. Questionable goal result of slow whistle by goal which costs Jets. Questionable penalty calls. Finding a way to lose. Sens had some injuries. Paulina Gretzky comment – too soon? Glass’ forechecking. Big Buff takes 12 shots. 1st reckless shootout at home. Higher expectations in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Sun: Arnett offering Dream Seats to kids in need. Arnett was all over the MTS Centre on Tuesday night. He did an interview with TSN, then had fun with the crowd selecting the night’s 50/50 winner. With Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune fame having just been here, the MTS Centre is becoming a place to see and be seen.
Winnipeg Sun: No magic number for Jets. Aside from coach Noel giving the playoff benchmark, you won’t hear this team speak farther than the next game they are set to play.
USA Today: Realignment debate – quick fix or major shakeup. Seems like this will be a battle of Western vs. Eastern philosophies. Personally I don’t understand how you talk realignment before you solve relocation. Of course as Paul Waldie of the Globe and Mail tweeted yesterday:
Words “deadline” and “Coyotes” should never be used in the same sentence.
Jets Affiliate News – St. John’s IceCaps:
The Telegram: Practice injury puts Holzapfel on the shelf for three weeks. Freak injury at practice will cost the IceCaps one of their key pieces.
Jets next opponent news – Phoenix Coyotes:
TSN: Turris expected to make season debut tomorrow. Adding a bit more spectacle that is going to take place at the circus like atmosphere tomorrow night at the MTS Centre as Winnipeg fans get their first opportunity to welcome the team that possesses the history of the Jets 1.0.
Arizona Republic: Can Glendale get Coyotes deal done? Can the people in Arizona still be having to answer this question all these years later. Incredulously the answer is yes as there still appears to be no answer, from either the council of Glendale or the league, as to how to solve this ownership crisis.
Arizona Republic: Smith, Whitney lead Phoenix past Blackhawks. Despite the off ice distractions, the Yotes are still playing extremely well on the ice, currently sitting tied for 1st in their division and 3rd overall in the West.
Arizona Republic: Penalty kills key to Coyotes’ success. Cutting down on penalties is a lesson the Jets could afford to learn.
