Winnipeg Jets Injury Report: Mason Appleton broke a bone in his foot

The third year pro was injured reportedly ahead of practice today in Regina.

Mason Appleton up close in practice

Tough news for the third year pro who was reportedly injured in Regina today as his team warmed up for their first practice at Mosaic Stadium ahead of tomorrow’s Heritage Classic between Winnipeg and Calgary.  Appleton has played nine games for the Jets this season although he has been a healthy scratch the past couple of contests.

Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun was the first to notice that Appleton wasn’t on the ice but was wearing a walking boot and crutches.  TSN’s Darren Dreger, who is in Regina, added that the sense he was getting was this injury would be classified as “week-to-week”.

Coach Maurice has indicated in his post-practice availability according to Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet that Appleton broke a bone in his foot and will be out awhile.  He added that it will be a month before anyone should be asking about the status of the Wisconsin product.

If I had to guess the Jets will call for Joona Luoto or Andrei Chibisov from the Moose as they are both playing well and are both waiver exempt.  They could call leading scorer Logan Shaw but he would have to clear waivers on the way back.
