The Jets got two big additions to the laundry list of players who are currently injured with today’s news from head coach Rick Bowness that Blake Wheeler is expected to be out at least a month and Nate Schmidt from 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury.

When the bench boss of Winnipeg was providing his update from Vancouver he said:

“….we don’t expect anyone coming back in the next three weeks at all. Three to four weeks.”

These two join:

Nikolaj Ehlers
Saku Maenalanen
Logan Stanley
Mason Appleton

Ehlers was back skating but is still a little ways away. On December 11th both Maenalanen and Stanley were listed as out “long term” by Rick Bowness. Back in mid November we learned that Appleton had undergone wrist surgery and would be out 8-12 weeks.

But with injury comes opportunity. Michael Eyssimont, Kevin Stenlund and Ville Heinola all recalled up from Manitoba. Could potentially recall either a forward or defenceman from Manitoba although as it is currently they have one extra forward and one space defenceman.
