Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff provides an update on 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti

Latest news on the Jets prospect.

Jets 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti took a hit in a game here in Winnipeg on February 17th against the Seattle Kraken from Jamie Oleksiak. He was listed as dealing with a “upper-body (injury) and he’ll be maybe a little longer than day-to-day” according to interim head coach Dave Lowry. That was almost five weeks ago.

Less than a week ago he was “still not close to skating yet” which wasn’t a good sign. He remains on LTIR.

In order for him to be eligible to play for the Moose during their Calder Cup Playoffs he had to be on their roster today (even if just a paper transaction) but he wasn’t sent down. Turns out there was a reason for that.

According to Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff who spoke today following the conclusion of the Trade Deadline he indicated that Perfetti missed out on being sent to the Moose for AHL playoff eligibility due to CBA rules (allows injured player to be sent down but because of the percentage of days he was up in NHL he wasn’t able to be sent down today).

He also advised that another injury cropped up when he was rehabbing from the first one. Added that it will require him to stay off the ice for awhile and he wasn’t sure of a timeline for when the prospect returns to the ice. Said he was working out but staying off the ice.

Tough news for the prospect.
