Winnipeg Jets Afternoon News

Winnipeg Jets Afternoon News (Thursday, Jan 5th)

Jets news – Looking to regroup against Leafs. Need to play smart . Four-game roadtrip continues in Toronto. Patrice Cormier recalled.

Next opponent news – Toronto Maple Leafs: Burke rails against lack of player accountability. Dion Phaneuf voted to NHL all-star team, Phil Kessel snubbed.

Note: IceCaps recall Peter Mannino from Chicago Express of ECHL.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets look to regroup against Leafs.  The Jets don’t want to start the new year off with a slide, so expect a better effort that you saw last night in Montreal.  The Jets are looking for their first win in the 2nd game of a back-to-back.

Winnipeg Sun:  Need to play smart vs. Leafs.  If you take a look at the standings as of last night, this isn’t a game the Jets can afford to take the night off.
Standings

TSN:  Jets continue four-game roadtrip in Toronto.  Munz gives you the expected Leafs roster tonight.  Appears as Ez suggested in his preview, that Chris Mason will get the start for the Jets.

Global Winnipeg:  Jets recall Cormier.  Hopefully he didn’t bother unpacking as he just ended his last stint with the Jets and is now being called back into action potentially tonight against the Leafs.

Next opponent news – Toronto Maple Leafs:

Toronto Star:  Leafs score more when Gustavsson is in net.  Will be put to the test tonight against Chris Mason who is sporting a solid 1.99 GAA and a .924 save percentage.

TSN:  Burke rails against lack of player accountability.  He sure loves his truculence.

National Post:  Burke on the decline of the enforcer.  Here is a partial transcript for those who didn’t get to experience the presser.

Toronto Star:  Maple Leafs’ Dion Phaneuf voted to NHL all-star team, Phil Kessel snubbed.  While I don’t really care about the All-Star game, you would think the league could figure out a way for the game to have the actual stars of the league playing.
