We caught up with Nashville’s coach and Manitoba native Barry Trotz who gave us his post game thoughts:
Jets and Preds 2nd Period Barry Trotz

IC:  What did you think of the game tonight?

Coach Trotz:  Well I felt we played fairly well in the 1st period and then I didn’t think we played very well after that point.  Good goaltending by Lindback but we played 1 period of hockey.  We had no business winning the hockey game.

IC:  What was it like to play in the MTS Centre, in front of that type of crowd?

Coach Trotz:  It was a great atmosphere.  It is going to be a really hard place to come in and win hockey games.  The crowd was great, they were into it and for a pre-season game, that was the loudest pre-season game I’ve ever heard.  They have great energy and the fans in Winnipeg will make this arena a very tough place to play if they keep acting like that all the time.  I’m really happy for the Jets and the people of Winnipeg.

IC:  How many calls did you get from Dauphin, Manitoba?

Coach Trotz:  Oh I got a few.  Everyone wanted to come and be a part of the Jets.

TSN:  What did you think of the team’s play?

Coach Trotz:  There weren’t too many bright spots on our team.  I thought Lindback played well.  I thought Jordin Tootoo played quite well for us.  We played the 1st period, played it well with detail and stayed on the puck.  We knew they were going to come out quickly, that’s been their MO since they began play at MTS Centre so we wanted to take crowd out of it a little bit and we did I thought in the 1st.  2nd period we just didn’t skate, we didn’t work.  The game is about commitment and staying on the puck and they didn’t do any of that.  But we found a way to win.  We’ve got a good goaltender.  We got him ready for the season after that game.
