On the Beat

On the Beat: How the Luongo contract might impact Carey Price, Marc-Andre Fleury is a bargain in today’s goalie market and Luc Robitaille’s discusses his favorite jersey.

In the wake of Roberto Luongo’s monster contract, from Montreal we get grumblings about how this might affect Carey Price and in Pittsburgh they look at the relative bargain they have with their Stanley Cup winner. Dennis Seidenberg is working out with the Canes but is starting to get desperate. Luc Robitaille is the only player to wear every Kings jersey and he explains which his favorite is. And much more.

What the Beat writers are saying:

  • Ducks reporter Dan Wood reflects on his time working in print media as he is leaving the Orange County Register to go work for the Ducks as a color analyst on the team’s radio broadcasts.
  • Looks like there will be a fifth goalie in the Thrashers camp, as Manny Legace was invited for a try out.  Does this mean that Kari Lehtonen isn’t 100%?  For more on the Thrashers goaltending check out yesterday’s Atlanta Thrashers 2009/10 season preview.
  • Fluto Shinzawa talks about the goaltending clinic being put on by Bruins goaltending coach Bob Essensa (every time I read that name I can’t help but hear Curt Keilback voice yelling “Bob Essensa with the save”).
  • Looks like what you see, is what you get, in Buffalo this season as that is what Darcy Regier told John Vogl of the Buffalo News.
  • Chip Alexander reports that while he is looking for a team to play for, Dennis Seidenberg is working out with the Carolina Hurricanes and he is sounding pretty anxious about not having a team with the season close to starting.
  • Last night’s guest on the Illegalcurve Radio show, Aaron Portzline discusses how you can smell the hockey season just around the corner.
  • Continuing with the Arena conversation in Edmonton, David Staples from Cult of Hockey, explains how for some people, any new arena built must be bold, to help improve the downtown’s formulaic appearance.
  • Rich Hammond from Inside the Kings brings us a Q&A with Luc Robitaille’s where he discusses his favorite jersey.  Who knew that he was the only player to wear every Kings jersey that has existed.
  • Mike Boone of Habs Inside/Out looks at the Luongo contract and how it might impact Montreal when it comes time to sign Carey Price.
  • Sticking with goalies and cost, the guys over at Empty Netters look at Marc-Andre Fleury and how in the present market, he is quite the bargain.
  • Bruce Boudreau’s mind is working overtime trying to figure out the best line combo’s for the Washington Capitals writes Tarik El-Bashir of the Washington Post.
