Dennis Beyak Play-By-Play Announcer, Hockey on TSN

Manitoba-native Dennis Beyak will join TSN as the play-by-play announcer for Winnipeg Jets regional games on the new television channel TSN Jets and on Sports Radio 1290 in Winnipeg.

Born and raised in the small farming community of Winnipegosis, Beyak began his broadcasting career on CFAR 590 Radio doing play-by-play for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Western Canada Hockey League. Since then, Beyak has provided play-by-play commentary for the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades, Victoria Cougars, Seattle Thunderbirds and the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Beyak has also done television play-by-play for the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers and was the primary radio voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 1998.

Brian Munz – Play-By-Play Announcer, Sports Radio 1290

Brian Munz joins Sports Radio 1290 as a play-by-play commentator for Winnipeg Jets broadcasts. He spent the last five seasons as the voice of the Manitoba Moose on Winnipeg’s CJOB Radio.

Munz began his broadcasting career with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BC Junior Hockey League. Following this, he spent five years calling Saskatchewan Junior Hockey games on 750 CJVR-FM for the Melfort Mustangs, Humboldt Broncos and Nipawin Hawks before making the jump to the WHL to do play-by-play for the Prince Albert Raiders in 200.

In 2004, the Regina native became the play-by-play voice of the AHL’s Edmonton Road Runners for one season before moving over to 630 CHED radio to host Edmonton Oilers broadcasts alongside Hall of Fame play-by-play broadcaster Rod Phillips and colour analyst Morley Scott.

Illegal Curve sat down with Brian Munz and chatted about his new twitter username, the transition from the AHL to NHL and his excitement over his new position.

Shane Hnidy – Analyst, Sports Radio 1290

Former NHL defenceman Shane Hnidy will join Sports Radio 1290 as a colour analyst for all Jets games this season. An 11-year veteran who’s played 550 NHL games with seven teams, Hnidy was a member of the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins last season.
