Six days after clinching their first-round series against the Milwaukee Admirals, the Manitoba Moose are back on the ice, set to face the top team in the Western Conference, the Grand Rapids Griffins, in a best-of-five second-round matchup in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Manitoba used the break to its advantage, getting in three days of practice while also allowing time to recover between series.
On the other side, Grand Rapids has been idle for nearly two weeks after earning a bye into the second round by finishing first in the Central Division. Their last game came on April 19, giving them 13 days of rest heading into the series.
That contrast could be a defining factor, making Manitoba’s start critical. If the Moose can pick up where they left off against Milwaukee, their pace and sharpness could give them an early edge.
Only change for the Moose is Jets prospect Garrett Brown making his pro debut as he stands in for fellow Winnipeg prospect Elias Salomonsson who is done for the playoffs (and beyond). The big right-shot defenceman is coming off a National Championship with Denver and certainly sounded ready for today.
