The Moose came into today’s game looking to build off an impressive 7-4 win over these same Stars on Friday night. It was an especially significant game given the fact that the Jets will be making a recall tomorrow for their two-game road trip to St. Louis and Dallas which means more eyes on individual player performances.
Lineup news:
The big news ahead of the game was that Elias Salomonsson had been cleared to play and was assigned to the Moose. It’s his first chance to get back into game action after undergoing shoulder surgery last April. With one Swede coming in, a half Swede came out as Manitoba moved Henry Thrun to the left side and took Lukas Gustafsson out of the lineup.
Moose lineup:
Wahlin – Yager – Chibrikov
Gregor – Zhilkin – Ford
He – Julien – Barlow
Empey – Yoder – Burnside
Phillips – Freij
Sautner – Mayo
Thrun – Salomonsson
Milic
Notable:
Tough start for the home team as the Stars took just 18 seconds into the game to open the scoring against the Moose.
But with 7:55 left in the period Jets prospect Colby Barlow with help from his OHL Linemates deposited a rebound from his shot to tie the game. He’s got 3 goals in 6 games (had 8 in 65 last season). On pace for 36.
One of the things that’s been noticeable about Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin has been his speed/power and he used it to draw a power play for the Moose.
Jets prospect Nikita Chibrikov scored for the third straight game for the Moose which gave the home team a 2-1 lead on the power play. Tha was his third goal in six games (of course he wasn’t done there).
Winnipeg goalie prospect Thomas Milic made some big stops including this one on a breakaway chance late in the middle frame to keep his team ahead by one. To that point in the game he had made 20 saves through 40 minutes.
File this goal in the weird category as Thomas Milic got taken out by his teammate Henry Thrun and the Stars tied the game in the 3rd period with the netminder lying prone on the ice.
And then 48 seconds later a Moose turnover ends up in the back of the Manitoba net off a rocket by Emil Hemming.
The Moose power play has been red hot to start season and it tied up the game which was their eighth PP goal in six games (tied for 2nd most in the AHL and gives them the best PP% at 42.1%). It even had Nikita Chibrikov smiling, which is no small feat, as his quick shot tied the game. Gives him four goals on the season. Compare that to last year when he had six in 53 games last season.
Thomas Milic with the leg extension to keep this puck out of the Moose net and ensure this game stays tied. Great stop by the Jets prospect.
Jets prospect Brayden Yager called game as he scores the OT winner to give the Moose a 4-3 victory over the Stars. He has 5 goals in 6 games. He had 10 in 68 last season.
Even though it wasn’t the cleanest game this team has played all season long they pick up another win and improve to 5-1-0 on the season.
Multi-point game:
Nikita Chibrikov 2G 1A
Brayden Yager 1G 1A
