Winnipeg Jets recall Brayden Yager from loan to the Moose; place Josh Morrissey on IR

The Saskatchewan product heading back to the big club ahead of the road trip.

With the Jets down Josh Morrissey and Vlad Namestnikov on a week-to-week basis, Winnipeg was going to need at least one reinforcements from its AHL affiliate in Manitoba before departing for St. Louis to begin a two-game road trip.

We already knew that D prospect Elias Salomonsson was heading to the Moose to get into a game after recovering from shoulder surgery this past April. He made his return to game action on Sunday in Manitoba’s 4-3 OT win over Texas. But would one game be enough for him to get back up with the big club or would they want him to go on the road with Manitoba for a few more games?

It appears the Jets will only make one recall up to the big club this morning and it will be Saskatchewan product Brayden Yager, who has been playing at another level to start the AHL season. Through six games with the Moose, he has five goals and four assists for nine points. To put that into perspective, he scored 10 goals in 68 games all of last season. And while he didn’t have his best outing on Sunday, he still managed to call game in overtime to give Manitoba the 4-3 win.

The question now is whether the Jets will give Yager an opportunity on the second line alongside Viggo Björck and Gabriel Vilardi, or whether they’ll look to insulate him in a more sheltered role as he adjusts to the NHL level.
