Manitoba Moose continue to roll in Central Division as they sweep Iowa with 2-0 shutout win over Wild

Recap of the game.

The Moose are coming off a 4-3 win over the Wild on Friday night which saw both teams get called for a million infractions so the special teams were very active for both clubs. Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic made 42-saves in the win. The question for tonight was whether they’d be able to stay perfect against Central Division teams (not named the Griffins).

Some pre-game news was that Elias Salomonsson was recalled up to the NHL and they got some bad news in that Jack St. Ivany got claimed so they lose the organizational depth.

Lineup news:

Jets prospect Brayden Yager back after his recall to the big club. Jacob Julien didn’t play tnt. Defenceman Evan Nause, recently recalled from ECHL, made his Moose debut. Dysin Mayo & Ashton Sauter out with injury (we learned post-game)

Moose lineup:

Wahlin – Yager – Chibrikov
Gregor – Zhilkin – Ford
He – Wagner – Barlow
Empey – Yoder – Burnside

Thrun – Barteaux
Phillips – Freij
Nause – Gustafsson

DiVincentiis

Notable:

Jets prospect Brayden Yager, in his first game since being sent down, picked up where he left off. He scored his 6th goal of season to give the Moose a 1-0 lead. Six goals in seven games. That’s a 60 goal pace. Last season he had 10 in 68.

With just over seven minutes remaining in the game, A big stop by Domenic DiVincentiis at one end with the Moose up 1-0 followed by a great lead pass by Brayden Yager which then led Lucas Wahlin to go to work. He scored the insurance goal and it was a pretty one as he gets the legs going around the defender and then puts it home for his third goal of the season.

It was another excellent performance by Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis, who made 34 saves in the Moose win. He has a .941 save percentage and a 2.02 GAA through five games, with two shutouts already matching his total in 34 games last season.

I didn’t think the officials could call more penalties after last night’s 14 minors between the Wild and Moose. Somehow they managed it, calling 15 minors in tonight’s game. Not an easy game if you don’t play on either of the special teams.

With the victory Manitoba improves to 7-2-0-0 on the season and remain undefeated in the Central (except against Grand Rapids). They’ve now won three times against Chicago, twice against Texas and twice against Iowa.
