The Moose kicked off this six-game road trip with a tight loss to the Griffins who have already beaten them twice this season. They are playing the Wild twice this weekend in Iowa which is the first time this regular season they’ll face their Central Division opponent.
Lineup news:
As we learned from Jets head coach Scott Arniel, Elias Salomonsson had blocked a shot which GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said necessitated the team doctors to give him an exam to ensure it was “nothing sinister”. That sounds somewhat ominious. Will have to monitor that. The team is still without Walker Duehr who hasn’t yet joined them. Lastly, Brayden Yager who was loaned back today after the Connor Hellebuyck trade necessitated some roster moves wasn’t able to make it to the team in time to play this game.
Moose lineup:
Wahlin – Wagner – Chibrikov
Gregor – Zhilkin – Ford
He – Julien – Barlow
Empey – Yoder – Burnside
Sautner – Thrun
Phillips – Freij
Gustafsson – Barteaux
Milic
Notable:
The Moose power play got back to being red-hot this evening in Iowa as Noah Gregor opened the scoring with his 5th of the year. Really deceptive shot by him with assists to Nikita Chibrikov and Henry Thrun. They were being outshot 10-2 at that point but they took a 1-0 lead.
Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic faced 19 shots in the 1st period courtesy of five power plays for the Wild, two of which they were able to beat him on. But if not for some timely saves it could have been much worse.
It was a better start to the middle frame for Manitoba with Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin picking up his 4th goal of the season. It was the second PP goal of the game by the Moose to tie things up 2-2. Assists to Parker Ford and Noah Gregor.
Even when they are down this Moose team seems to find a way. Parker Ford with a huge hit in neutral zone starts off this play which he ends with his second goal of the season to tie the game. Nice pass by Danny Zhilkin. It was not a PP goal as it had just expired 4 seconds earlier.
2/3 of the OHL line set up this PP goal, which was the third one of the game for the Moose. Parker Ford, who had himself a game, picked up his second of the contest and third of the season to make it 4-3 for Manitoba. Assists to Jets prospects Kevin He & Colby Barlow.
The most impressive of the 42 saves made on this evening by Thomas Milic. He stole that one to keep his team ahead by a goal just past midpoint of the 3rd period.
And that’s how the game would end with the Moose on top of the Wild by a final score of 4-3 to improve to 6-2-0 on the season.
