Jets 5 Preds 4 in SO

The Jets are now 46-19-10 with their 5-4 shootout win over the Predators which clinched the second ever playoff spot for the relocated franchise.  It was their fifth straight win and they will look to go a perfect 6-0 on this homestand when they finish it off on Tuesday against the Bruins.

Notable:

1st:
– Jets gave up two goals to open the contest including a PP goal with 0.3 seconds left;
– Shots were 15-4 for Nashville after 20 minutes.

2nd:
– Kyle Connor made it a one goal game on the power-play;
– Ryan Ellis helped the visitors regain the two goal lead with a blast from the point;
– Dustin Byfuglien got the Jets back within one as he too blasted one from the point;
– Bryan Little scored his 15th of the season to tie the game;
– Couple minutes later the Jets were caught napping and Arvidson puts Nashville back on top 4-3;
– The Jets reversed the shot trends in the middle frame outshooting the Preds 25-8 and hold a 29-23 lead after 40.

3rd:
– Early in the final frame Blake Wheeler put home a rebound to tie the game at 4.
– While both teams had a chance to take a lead neither side could get it done in regulation;
– Shots were 15-13 for the Jets and finished off 44-36 in regulation.

OT:
– It was a phenomenal overtime and while both teams hit a post neither team could win it in extra time.

Numbers:
– Kyle Connor had a goal (29) and two assists (20, 21);
– Connor’s 29th goal ties him with Brock Boeser for most goals in the NHL by a rookie;
– Blake Wheeler had a goal (20) and assist (65);
– That’s the sixth time in his career (and five straight) times he has had 20 or more goals in a season;
– Wheeler also added to his NHL assists lead with his 65th of the season;
– Bryan Little had a goal (15) and assist (27) in the game.
