There was a new face was at Moose practice today as Jets prospect Garrett Brown (2022 4th) took part in his first ever playoff practice as a pro. The big, right shot defenceman is coming off winning a National Championship with Denver University.
After the skate we had a chance to catch up with him to discuss his style of game, winning a title with the Pioneers, signing his first NHL contract, his development path and much more.
He spoke about signing his first contract:
“It was so awesome. They were great during this whole experience. They’ve been nothing but kind and welcoming…. I’m super excited to be here.”
On knowing when it was time to turn pro (I was impressed by this answer):
“I don’t think you do. You can always say one decision is better than the other, but I think you need to make a decision and then you need to make that the right decision”
Describing his development (another mature answer):
“ I think I’m just a long-term thing. I grew up playing junior Sharks, we’ve never been in a rush, go play in the USHL for a couple years, three years at Denver. It’s all about the process”.
On the rational for turning pro.
Building relationships with his new teammates.
