With the claim of goalie Clay Stevenson this afternoon, the Jets made their final move of training camp in order to ensure they were compliant with the NHL’s 23-man roster limit by assigning Brayden Yager and Domenic DiVincentiis to the Moose. Now that they’ve done so we can see that they will have the following players on the roster:
G (2): Clay Stevenson, Stuart Skinner
D (8): Dylan DeMelo, Neal Pionk, Jack St. Ivany, Haydn Fleury, Mario Ferraro, Josh Morrissey, Dylan Samberg, Tyrel Bauer
F (13): Vladislav Namestnikov, Alex Iafallo, Gabriel Vilardi, Adam Lowry, Isak Rosén, Morgan Barron, Cole Koepke, Mark Scheifele, Viggo Björck, Nino Niederreiter, Kyle Connor, Cole Perfetti, Brad Lambert.
Injured: Elias Salomonsson (inj), Garrett Brown (inj) & Walker Duehr (inj).
This means 18-year-old eighth overall pick Viggo Björck has made the NHL out of training camp, becoming the first Winnipeg first-rounder to do so since Ville Heinola in 2019 and just the fourth in the last 16 years, joining Patrik Laine (2016) and Mark Scheifele (2011). Of course, only Laine played the full season with the Jets in the year he was drafted.
It also means that Tyrel Bauer makes the Winnipeg roster for the first time in his five-year career as a pro. And let me tell you after speaking with his Moose teammates today that they are all pulling for the big Albertan.
