A new assistant coach for the Jets bench as the team announced they have added former Portland Winterhawks GM and coach Jamie Kompon to the fold. As you can see in the Jets Release below Kompon has spent a number of years in the NHL as an assistant coach which includes Stanley Cup wins with the Kings in 2012 and Blackhawks in 2013.
At the draft in Buffalo coach Maurice was asked about his search for an assistant coach (starts at 6:15) and perhaps he tipped his hand in the favour of Jamie Kompon when he told us “….I wanted to take our time and look into junior and look into college at people who have had unusual amounts of success or they have that reputation of success…”.
During the 2014-15 season in Portland he coached current Jets prospects Nic Petan and Chase De Leo as well as the brother (Anton) of Jets 4th round pick in 2016 Jacob Cederholm.

The Winnipeg Jets announced that Jamie Kompon will join the club as an assistant coach under head coach Paul Maurice. He joins assistant coach Charlie Huddy, goaltender coach Wade Flaherty and video coach Matt Prefontaine on the Jets’ coaching staff.
Kompon, who was born in Thunder Bay, Ont., comes to the Jets after serving as head coach and general manager of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks for the past two seasons. He led Portland to a 77-54-13 record over that time, taking the team to the playoffs in both seasons including a trip to the Western Conference Final in 2015.
Kompon, 49, has extensive experience as an NHL assistant coach including six seasons with the Los Angeles Kings from 2006-11 and two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2012-14. Kompon won the Stanley Cup in consecutive seasons, in 2012 with Los Angeles and 2013 with Chicago. Prior to his time in Los Angeles, which included time as the Kings’ Director of Amateur Development from 2006-08, Kompon spent nine seasons with the St. Louis Blues from 1997-2006 in various roles which included: assistant coach, video coach and strength and conditioning coach.
Kompon was an assistant coach with the Baltimore Bandits of the American Hockey League for the 1996-97 season, and in 1994-95 he was named Co-Head Coach at McGill University in Montreal after spending three seasons there as an assistant coach. Kompon played four seasons as a defenceman at McGill where he also earned a degree in education. He played professionally in the ECHL and in Germany.
