Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Seven Jets players sign AHL deals.  No big surprises with these signings.

Hockey Expression:  Enstrom to sign with Modo (Swedish).  According to this report Tobias Enstrom is heading back home to Sweden to play with Modo.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Meech looks on bright sideLooking at the positive he can get into good game shape playing with the IceCaps, and since the Jets will now have need of him on defence, he will be ready to go whenever the season gets underway.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Anthony Camara has hat trick in Barrie Colts 6-4 win over Ottawa 67’sLooks like Mark Scheifele had a pretty good summer as he got his season started with a big night in Ottawa with a goal and 3 helpers.

Winnipeg Free Press:  IceCaps planning very small training campRegardless of the size of camp, fans in St. John’s must be ecstatic at the prospect of AHL hockey returning for another season, especially given some of the NHL calibre players who will be over in Atlantic Canada to start the season.

CBA news:

Sportsnet:  Mark Messier says NHL, union need to bridge ‘trust’Another of the guys who is familiar with these types of situations having been on both sides of the battle.  Interesting comments from Messier on the new arena in Edmonton as well in the article.

Globe and Mail:  NHL losing the war on social mediaIf I was Donald Fehr I would put a moratorium on players tweeting anything CBA related.  If you actually read the comments coming from some of the players they can come across as pretty uninformed.  You hired Donald Fehr to negotiate for you, why not let him do his job?

TSN:  NHLPA memorandum outlines latest on CBA and other detailsFor the NHLPA side of things, give this a read.

ESPN:  No CBA talks this weekHey why change the flow?  Neither side has shown any interest in serious negotiations, so perhaps both sides would be well served to take the weekend off, chill, enjoy the weather and figure out a way to save their 3.3 billion dollar industry whenever they can get around to it.

NHL news:

Hamilton Spectator:  Will new HECFI operators give NHL dreams a boost?  The City of Hamilton continues to keep the NHL firmly in its view and Hamiltonians will do whatever it takes to enhance the prospect of getting NHL hockey to their city.

Globe and Mail:  Potential Seattle owner counting on NHL expansionStanding in the way of adding a franchise to Canada is the potential to add one in the Pacific Northwest.  Seattle continues to flirt with the notion of adding NHL although their prize remains the return of NBA basketball.

Toronto Star:  The Stanley Cup should go to Canada’s best hockey team in the absence of the NHLCount me as someone not in favour of awarding the Stanley Cup to anyone other than the best NHL team that wins it.
