Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | November 8, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage and all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets held a practice on Saturday which saw Josh Morrissey wearing a regular jersey for the first time in a month. While we won’t know whether he’s ready to return until morning skate, it’s a positive sign for Winnipeg as they look to get their top-pairing defenceman back. We also learned that Elias Salomonsson will be away from the team while dealing with a personal matter and the team would later recall Henry Thrun from the minors on an emergency basis. The Jets will be looking to build on their two straight wins when they welcome the Lightning, who won 4-3 in OT over the Wild last night in St. Paul. Morning skate gets underway at 9:30 AM, so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up to date on the latest. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Tampa Bay, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CDT.

Note III: The Moose completed their weekend sweep of the Marlies with a thrilling 4-3 OT win on Saturday, improving to 10-4-0-0 on the season while remaining perfect at home (6-0-0-0). Davis Burnside played the hero in overtime, while Danny Zhilkin had three assists and Lukas Gustafsson scored his first pro goal. Manitoba also added another shorthanded goal, giving them five in their last 15 penalty kills. The Moose now head out on a five-game road trip, beginning in Texas.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Morrissey’s return adds fuel to Jets new-found fire. With the team looking like they may have righted the ship to some degree, the addition of a player like No. 44 would only be a boon to this club.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets defenceman Morrissey could be in lineup after missing 13 games. And the record without him is not particularly pretty.

NHL.com: Plenty of potential in Command. When we spoke to Shane Malloy back in June he raved about the abilities of Alexander Command.
