Moose stay perfect at home, completing weekend sweep of Marlies with pair of OT wins, including 4-3 victory in finale

Recap of the game.

The Moose and Marlies played a very close game on Friday between two teams that are similarly ranked across a number of categories in the AHL. Manitoba came out on top in overtime thanks to Walker Duehr’s second goal of the game, which came off a great feed from Danny Zhilkin.

The Moose were looking to close out their short, two-game homestand with another victory, which would allow them to remain perfect on home ice this season.

Before the game Manitoba recalled forward Michael Milne from Bloomington of the ECHL.

Lineup news:

No Henry Thrun (he was recalled on an emergency basis by the Jets). As well no Walker Duehr after he had two goals last night including the OT winner due to illness.

Moose lineup:

He – Zhilkin – Ford
Milne – Julien – Chibrikov
Wagner – Lambert – Barlow
Burnside – Yoder – Wahlin

Phillips – Freij
Nause – Barteaux
Gustafsson – Matier

Milic

Notable:

All the Moose players on the ice got a touch on the puck, but in the end it was Parker Ford who put it into the net to tie the game 1-1. It was his 4th goal of the season.

Great save by Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic on the penalty kill as he kept this puck from sliding into the empty net.

Another shorthanded goal for the Moose. Chase Yoder was in the box but he got sprung by Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin (who had another excellent game) and ripped this shot home. That meant Manitoba had 5 shorthanded goals in their last 15 PENALTY KILLS as per play-by-play voice Daniel Fink.

The Moose weren’t done on the penalty kill as Brad Lambert made a move and drives the net for this shorthanded chance seconds after Manitoba had taken the lead.

Another brilliant save as Thomas Milic kept his team ahead by one with 10 seconds to go in the 2nd period.

First pro goal alert as Lukas Gustafsson, who was excellent all game long, as he tied the game for the Moose in the 3rd period with this power play goal. Not saying they needed that but coming into that power play the Moose had gone 0/29 with the man advantage. Crazy to think they had 5G in last 15 penalty kills but had such futility when up a man.

Jets prospect Kevin He with a fantastic chance to win the game in OT for the Moose as he gets the legs moving for this opportunity but Hlavaj makes a great save.

What a sequence. Great pass by the pride of Foxwarren, Manitoba Dawson Barteaux over to Davis Burnside, who wins it for the Moose. His second ever GWG and first one in OT. It was the fourth goal of the game to be scored for the Moose by an NCAA player.

That was a busy game as the Moose pick up a 4-3 OT victory to sweep their weekend set with the Marlies. They improve to 10-4-0-0 and are an impressive 6-0-0 at home.

Multi-point game:

Danny Zhilkin 3A
Dawson Barteaux 2A
