Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets, Moose & Ice news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets are in offseason mode but is there really ever an offseason? If there is any news we will have it for you here. And of course the Illegal Curve Hockey Show runs until the end of July so be sure you’re a subscriber and join us every Saturday morning at 9 AM.

Note II: The Moose are also now in offseason mode. We did almost 20 interviews on Monday to conclude the Moose season. Lots of good stuff from Jets prospects (Heinola, Torgersson, Nikkanen, Lundmark). The team will release the content over the next week or so. To date they’ve released Jimmy Oligny (watch here), head coach Mark Morrison (watch here) and Evan Polei/Cole Maier (watch here), Dominic Toninato (watch here) and Oskari Salminen (watch here). And we will wrap up the season next week with an end of season Moose recap show.

Note III: The Ice announced that they will be playing the WHL Championship series out of Canada Life Centre starting with game 1 tomorrow against the Thunderbirds. Tickets went on sale two days ago. They are scheduled to practice today.

Note IV: Jets prospect Brad Lambert (2022 1st rounder) and his Seattle Thunderbirds will be in Winnipeg to compete with the Ice for the WHL Championship.

Jets news:

TV 2 Sports: With two days to go until Denmark’s World Cup opening match, Nikolaj Ehlers status remains up in the air. According to this report it is insurance not the health of the Jets winger that is causing the delay.

Sportsnet: Jets Mailbag: What does Connor Hellebuyck’s next contract look like? In addition to trying to answer that question Wieber looks at potential front runners for Pierre-Luc Dubois, the ability of Nikolaj Ehlers to stay healthy, success of Paul Maurice as a lesson, Jets effort to acquire Jakob Chychrun, fitting D prospects up with big club and more.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets mailbag: Pierre-Luc Dubois urgency? Rick Bowness’ hidden message? (Paywall). You had questions and here are Murat’s answers.

Illegal Curve Hockey: Jets draft pick/Moose Dman Leon Gawanke signs four-year deal in Germany. I really expected the next news to report on the defenceman from Berlin was that he was being added to the German World Championship team (which he has been). However he also has a new contract in the DEL.

Jets prospect news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Drive and determination pay off. (Paywall). Mike had a chance to catch up with Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis who was named the OHL Goalie of the Year after a phenomenal season in net.

Ice news:

TSN: Ice reaping benefits of total rebuild during WHL playoff run. A good read on the pain the Ice had to go through before they could become team they currently are.

K5 News: Thunderbirds preparing for WHL Championship. Good insight into the Ice opponent.
