Note: The Jets were off on Friday but they were still making plenty of news. They reassigned David Gustafsson to the taxi squad and sent Cole Perfetti to the Moose which they followed up by also reassigning Kristian Vesalainen to the taxi squad. There was also news that Dominic Toninato was placed on waivers and we will have to see if he clears this morning. (Update: He cleared). The Jets are off again today and are scheduled to be back at practice on Sunday morning.
Note II: After five more days of training camp this last week the Moose are also off today. They remain without a regular season schedule.
Note III: When the Jets reverse retro jersey was revealed back in November there was plenty of reaction. It’s one thing however to see the images in a rendering. What about when actual Jets players are wearing these jerseys in a game? What do you think of them? Plenty of fan reaction already.
Note IV: Join us for three hours of Jets and NHL talk on Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg this morning starting at 9:00 a.m. CT. Today’s guests on the show include: Dennis Beyak (TSN), Marty Biron (Retired NHL goalie, Sabres studio analyst on MSG), Jody Shelley (Broadcaster Fox Sports Ohio covering Blue Jackets) and Josh Cooper (The Athletic). You can listen to the show here.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Dubois skates out of quarantine, ready to join Jets practice. All eyes were on the newest member of the Jets today as the team had the day off (although in photos it appears some teammates were at the rink) while Pierre-Luc Dubois hit the ice for a skate. Ted also wrote about Mason Appleton, Connor Hellebuyck, playoff urgency and high-danger chances.
Winnipeg Free Press: Lots of Jets sure bets for Olys. (Paywall). It’s like the model U.N here in Winnipeg.
Global News: One-fifth of the Winnipeg Jets’ schedule is now in the books. Hard to believe that 20% of the season is complete as it just feels like hockey re-started but perhaps that is simply a reality of the condensed nature of this season.
Sportsnet: Pierre-Luc Dubois draws on past experience ahead of Jets debut. Really informative article here from Ken on the newest addition to the Jets team.
Winnipeg Sun: Hellebuyck’s ‘inner-drive, inner-belief’ carried him to the top of Jets’ record books. Having watched him since his time with the Moose it doesn’t really surprise me that his internal drive has propelled him to this spot in his career.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets off to strong start and should only get better with addition of Dubois. Considering they’ve managed to more than tread water since game 2 when they’ve been without Patrik Laine the addition of Pierre-Luc Dubois can only be a big boost to the third place in the North Jets.
NHL.com: Dubois doing ‘everything’ to be ready for Jets debut Tuesday. Tim had a Q&A with the newest member of the Jets hockey club.
Jets audio:
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Jets getting wins even without Dubois. TSN Hockey Analyst Ray Ferraro joined Andrew Paterson and Rick Ralph on the Afternoon Ride. They discussed the Jets week of games vs. Calgary, Blake Wheeler’s aging curve, where Pierre-Luc Dubois might fit in the lineup, Logan Stanley’s season so far and Mason Appleton’s impact in the lineup.
