Breaking News: A New Pioneer for Women’s Hockey?

Illegalcurve.com is proud to be the first media outlet to report that seventeen year old female goaltender Alex Rigsby, formerly of the Milwaukee Junior Admirals, and the United States Women’s Under 18 program, has been drafted in round 16, 199th overall in the United States Hockey League entry draft.

As hockey fans may remember, the first and only woman to play competitively in the NHL, albeit in an exhibition game, was Manon Rheaume who played two pre-season games in goal for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1992 and 1993.

Is Alex Rigsby going to join Manon Rheaume as women who have played in the NHL?

Is Alex destined to become the first woman to play in a regular season NHL game?

Time will tell, but we know Alex is already a pioneer, becoming the first woman to be drafted in the United States Hockey League.

Stay tuned to www.illegalcurve.com for all the latest developments in this pioneering quest.
