Winnipeg Jets trade Drew Stafford to the Boston Bruins

The Jets trade the winger to the Bruins.

About 30 minutes after the trade deadline was final Pierre LeBrun of TSN/ESPN announced that Jets winger Drew Stafford was on the move to the Boston Bruins.  In return LeBrun says the Jets get a conditional 6th round pick (which the Jets release indicated would be in 2018).

Stafford has had an injury plagued season with just four goals and nine assists in 40 games for the Jets.  Last year in his first full season with Winnipeg he had 21 goals and 17 assists in 78 games.  He was at the end of a two-year deal and is scheduled to become a UFA after this season.

Craig Custance of ESPN added these details about the conditions involved for the pick the Jets are getting from Boston “If Drew Stafford plays 50% or more of rest of reg. season games and playoffs and Bruins win Round 1, 6th rounder becomes 4th.”  Custance also added that the Jets didn’t retain any salary in the Stafford deal.

Turns out, according to the Jets GM, that the 6th round pick becomes a 5th round if the Bruins make the playoffs and Stafford plays 50% of games.  It becomes a 4th round pick if Boston wins a round.

Drew Stafford:  On the move to Boston.  Where does he see himself fitting in with that team?  How did he find out about the trade?  What was today like?  What will stand out for him from his time in Winnipeg?  On not seeing it end like this.  Was he surprised that he was traded?  What will he miss most about Winnipeg?  Does he feel like he’s leaving a team on the upswing?  Has he talked to Tyler Myers?  How difficult is it on the family?
