The Jets were clearly thrilled to have the opportunity to select Viggo Björck with the eighth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff could barely contain his excitement when discussing the Swedish centre just hours after making the selection. A day later, Director of Amateur Scouting Mark Hillier was equally enthusiastic, calling Björck “one of the most exciting draft picks he’s ever had.”
When Björck arrived in Winnipeg for Development Camp, the excitement only continued. Fans eagerly flocked to catch a glimpse of the organization’s top prospect, lining up for photos and autographs while getting an early look at the skill set that made him a top-10 pick. Whether on or off the ice, Björck quickly became one of the main attractions of camp.

There was plenty of discussion throughout the week about where Björck would play next season, but the Jets left the door open to the possibility of the Swedish centre making the NHL roster out of training camp. Before that could happen, however, he first needed to sign his entry-level contract.
We got wind on Saturday from his Swedish club that he would be heading overseas for the upcoming season and now it’s became official today, as the Jets signed the eighth-overall pick to a three-year entry-level contract with an average annual value of $1,075,000.

Which means you should read this article about why the Winnipeg Jets are so excited about him.
It seemed like the only question was if he’d wear 21 like he does internationally for Sweden or 61 like he did for Djurgårdens IF in the SHL. He’s the first ever 61 for the Jets 2.0 and based on a tweet by Winnipeg it looks like he’s chosen 61.
