The Jets are busy preparing for the Sabres this evening but while most players were on the ice David Gustafsson was not and Mason Appleton remained in a non-contact jersey. These are the last two players on injured reserve for Winnipeg.
After the skate head coach Rick Bowness spoke during his media availability and was asked for an update on the pair.
With respect to Gustafsson he said:
“Upper-body injury. He will need another few days off. He had an MRI yesterday. And he just needs probably another three or four days off.”
Gustafsson was placed on IR back on January 10th although the view at the time was it wasn’t seen as anything too serious.
And regarding Appleton when asked if he was closer he indicated:
“He’s getting closer….”
at which point the follow-up was “any chance before the break”?
He continued:
“….I wouldn’t rule it out at this point. I talked to him today about getting him out of that red jersey. I would say after the All-Star break is the best bet without ruling out the possibility of Saturday or Monday.”
Appleton has been out since wrist surgery back in mid November which had him out for 8-12 weeks.
Once either of the two are ready to return the Jets will need to make a move as they currently sit with 23 on their roster.
