The Jets took Superbowl Sunday off following their decisive win over the Ducks on Saturday night which saw Winnipeg set a new record for goals in a period (6) and match the most goals they’ve ever scored in a game (9).  Individually Jack Roslovic scored his first hat trick as a pro while also adding an assist for a night he won’t soon forget.  But today that is yesterday’s news as the team will switch their focus to a Sharks team that is coming in hot having won two straight and are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games which sees them firmly in second spot in the Pacific.

Pre-Practice News:

In addition to his first pro hat trick Jack Roslovic also had two goals and an assist in four games for the Jets last week and as a result he was designated as the NHL First Star of the Week.

Practice Notes:

According to Mike Sawatsky of the Winnipeg Free Press defenceman Dustin Byfuglien is back in a regular practice uniform.

Coach Maurice:  Status of Dustin Byfuglien.  On Jack Roslovic being named NHL First Star of the Week.  On the role Bryan Little has played mentoring Jack Roslovic.  On the contributions from the young players.  How much is the conversation with Cheveldayoff changing based on the play of his team?  On how Brendan Lemieux has handled himself following the Finland trip.  Did he have a heart to heart with Lemieux?  On the 4th line trying to earn more ice time.  How much has the offence from the 4th line surprised him?  On coaching in his 1500th regular season NHL game tomorrow night.  Will he take a moment to soak it in tomorrow?  What stands out from game 1?

Health Update:

With Dustin Byfuglien returning to a regular practice uniform today the speculation was he could be a player tomorrow night against San Jose.  Coach Maurice advised “He looked good and he moved well, got through practice.  But we will wait to see how he is after skate today to see how he is.  This is the first practice he’s had in an awfully long time so unless he’s feeling right on we won’t put him in, but there’s a pretty good chance he’s banging on the door saying he’s ready to go cause he’s felt good for the last week.”
