Winnipeg Jets overseas prospects report XIII

During the course of doing this overseas report the Jets had 14 draft picks or players under contract playing in the KHL, SHL, Liiga, DEL, DEL2, Slovakian league and HockeyAllsvenskan.

Since our last report one prospect was recalled back to Manitoba while another returned to Finland after competing in the World Juniors leaving just four healthy prospects playing overseas as well as two injured ones.

Players on loan:

1. Leon Gawanke

Eisbären Polar Bears (DEL): 6 GP 0 goals 2 assists 4 blocked shots. Averaging 17:27 of time on ice.

Change since last report: 3 GP 0 goals 2 assists

Next game: He was recalled on the 14th of January from his hometown club to return to Manitoba in order to be ready for the start of the AHL season.

2. Arvid Holm

Farjestads BK Karlstad (SHL): 9-8-1, 2.79 GAA .914 save%

Change since last week: 2 GP 1 win 1 loss.

Next game: January 23rd.

Other Jets prospects in Europe:

1. Santeri Virtanen

SaiPa Lappeenranta (Liiga): 23 GP 4 goals 5 assists, averaging 17:01 of ice time per game.

Change since last update: 2 GP 2 goals 0 assists. He had his first multi goal game of his career.

Next game: Tonight.

2. Henri Nikkanen

Jukurit Mikkeli (Liiga): 18 GP 2 goals 5 assists, averaging 18:41 of ice time per game.

Change since last update: 3GP 0 goals 0 assists.  He hasn’t been in a prospect update since December 7th as he was at the World Juniors tournament in Edmonton where he won bronze with Team Finland.

3. Simon Lundmark

Linkopings HC (SHL): 28 GP 2 goals 4 assist, averaging 12:25 of ice time per game.

Change since last week: 7 GP 0 goals 1 assist.

Next game: January 23rd.

Injured:

1. Anton Johannesson

HV71 J20: Hasn’t played a game yet this season.

Status: None. Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg reported that the Jets 2020 5th rounder is recovering from surgery on his foot.

In my chat with his countryman David Gustafsson, he gave me his coles notes on the Jets 2020 5th rounder.

2. Daniel Torgersson

Frölunda HC J20 (J20 Nationell): 10 GP 4 goals 5 assists.
Frölunda HC (SHL): 2 GP 0 goals 0 assists, averaging 3:22 of ice time per game.

Status: Within the last week Torgersson signed a two-year contract with Frölunda. We also did learn that the surgery he required was on his knee.
